Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu’azu, has called for a law-backed development plan for Bauchi State to secure the future and protect it from the stop-start cycle of governance that often follows political transitions.
Mu’azu, who is also a former governor of Bauchi State, said this on Saturday at a public lecture marking the 50th Golden Jubilee of the state in Bauchi.
He said only a legally anchored blueprint could guarantee continuity and sustained progress regardless of who occupies the seat of power.
Speaking on the long-term needs of the state, Mu’azu warned that Bauchi’s development gains risk being reversed when successive administrations abandon existing projects in favour of new agenda.
He stressed that a development plan enshrined in law would compel every government to align its policies with agreed priorities, ensuring stability and measurable growth across critical sectors.
Mu’azu argued that such a framework would also improve accountability, as leaders would be judged against clear benchmarks rather than vague promises.
According to him, sectors like education, healthcare, infrastructure and agriculture require consistent investment over many years to yield results, something short-term political calculations often undermine.
He further urged political leaders, lawmakers and stakeholders in the state to rise above partisan interests and work together to design a people-driven development agenda.
The former governor noted that with broad consultation and legislative backing, Bauchi could set a national example of how long-term planning, rather than personality-driven governance, can fast-track sustainable development.
