MultiChoice Nigeria has slashed the price of its DStv decoder by 50 per cent, reducing it from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.

The company announced the move on Tuesday to attract new customers and stem declining subscriptions.

In a statement by its Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, MultiChoice described the price cut as a gesture to reward loyal customers and deliver greater value.

“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” Ugbe said.

“The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”

He added that by repositioning DStv as a platform for daily value, the company hopes to drive content discovery across a broader range of genres, including movies, drama, children’s programming, and news.

“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” the statement noted.

As part of the campaign, MultiChoice also unveiled a limited-time promotional offer.

Customers who pay for their current package in full can enjoy a free upgrade to the next subscription tier from June 16 to July 31, 2025.

The company explained that the price slash and the free upgrade initiative were responses to the ongoing economic hardship affecting many Nigerians.

The announcement followed a significant subscriber drop, with MultiChoice reportedly losing 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.

It also followed series of price increases on DStv and GOtv packages, implemented three times within 12 months – in April 2023, November 2023, and most recently in May 2024.
