Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday morning visited Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, following the tragic attack on Sunday which claimed several lives and left many others injured.

Describing the incident as painful, tragic, and unacceptable, Governor Mutfwang expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and sympathized with residents of the affected community.

He assured them that the perpetrators of the heinous act would be tracked down and brought to justice.

“This is a painful moment for all of us. Angwan Rukuba is a community that accommodates people from diverse ethnic backgrounds across Plateau State. Therefore, this is not the pain of a few—it is the pain of all of us,” the governor stated.

Governor Mutfwang in a statement issued by his director of press and public affairs Gyang Bere announced that the state government would ensure dignified burials for all victims, emphasizing that there would be no mass burial. “We will not allow mass burial.

“Government will work closely with the families to give each victim a befitting burial. They did not deserve to die in such a manner,” he assured.

He further disclosed that the Plateau State Government would take full responsibility for the medical treatment of all injured victims until full recovery.
“For those currently receiving treatment, government will bear the full cost of their medical care,” he added.

The governor appealed for calm, particularly among the youth, urging residents to resist any temptation to take the law into their own hands. He stressed that peace, restraint, and cooperation with security agencies are critical to restoring normalcy.

“I urge you all to remain calm. The greatest honour we can give to the departed is to remain peaceful and allow due process to take its course,” he said.

Providing updates on security efforts, Governor Mutfwang revealed that one suspect linked to prior threats had already been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other perpetrators. He assured citizens that both the state and federal authorities, including the President, are fully engaged and committed to ensuring justice is served.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, emphasizing that Plateau State will not yield to forces seeking to undermine its peace. He also called on community leaders and residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to prevent future occurrences.

The governor directed that the bodies of the deceased be evacuated to the mortuary, while consultations continue with families and stakeholders toward ensuring justice and lasting peace in the area.

He subsequently visited victims receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he offered prayers for their speedy and full recovery.
