A group, Concerned Enugu People (CEP) has asked a former federal permanent secretary, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, to contest the governorship position in Enugu State, citing an urgent need for administrative excellence and a break from politics in the state.

Speaking during a radio’s morning show, CEP chairman, Comrade David Nkemakolam, said the state stands at a crossroads. With the current socio-economic pressures, he emphasised that the state needs a leader with proven integrity, deep public-service experience and a genuine love for the Coal City State.

Nkemakolam said Enugu is a state with boundless potential, “yet our people remain hungry for genuine development and visionary governance,” adding that. “We have looked across the political arena and identified Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa as the missing piece in our quest for a ‘New Enugu.’

“His decades of flawless service at the highest levels of the federal bureaucracy makes him the most qualified candidate to redeem our state’s glory,” Nkemakolam said.

He further highlighted several key areas where Sir Ohaa’s leadership is viewed as essential: Leveraging his tenure as a federal permanent secretary to streamline state governance; infrastructure and economy – initiating sustainable projects that go beyond surface-level aesthetics to drive real economic growth and prioritising the needs of workers, retiree and the youth who feel sidelined by the current system.

The group also described Sir Ohaa not just as a seasoned technocrat, but as a bridge-builder who understands the complexities of Enugu’s political and social fabric.

“This is not just another political endorsement; it is a movement for survival. Sir Ohaa represents the discipline of the civil service combined with a heart for the common man. We are urging him to answer this call, not for his own sake, but for the future of Enugu state and our unborn children,” he said.

The group announced a statewide mobilization to sensitize citizens on redemption through competence. The group maintains that with Sir Ohaa at the helm of the afare, Enugu can reclaim its place as the administrative and intellectual capital of the Southeast.
