NAPTIP Begins Probe Into Lagos Daycare Abuse Allegations Linked to Simi

The Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, has ordered a full-scale investigation into allegations of child molestation and abuse at an undisclosed daycare facility in Lagos.

The development follows renewed social media scrutiny involving Nigerian singer Simi, born Simisola Kosoko, after old posts attributed to her resurfaced online.

In a statement shared on X on Friday, the agency said the Director-General had directed its operatives to commence an immediate inquiry based on “suggestive online posts” pointing to possible child abuse in a daycare setting.

“Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, OON, has directed Operatives of the Agency to commence a full-scale investigation into the alleged Child Molestation and Abuse in a Day-care setting in Lagos, as deduced from the suggestive online post by a popular Nigerian singer,” the statement read.

The agency added that its communication channels remain open to receive complaints from anyone who may have been affected.

“While appreciating the genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter, the Agency wishes to inform the general public that all its communication platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been abused or violated on the said Day-care,” it stated.

NAPTIP emphasised that child protection remains its priority and urged members of the public with useful information to come forward.

The agency’s action comes shortly after the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed that the matter had been referred to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation.

According to the agency’s Executive Secretary, Lola Vivour Adeniyi, the allegations could not be ignored and required formal review by law enforcement authorities.

The controversy began after screenshots of tweets from 2012 and 2013, purportedly authored by Simi, resurfaced online. The renewed attention followed recent comments by the singer advocating stricter punishment for rapists and highlighting the prevalence of sexual assault.

Some social media users interpreted the decade-old posts as suggestive of inappropriate conduct within a daycare environment, prompting widespread reactions.

Simi has since responded to the backlash, stating that the resurfaced posts were misinterpreted and unrelated to any improper conduct.
