Nasarawa State government has spent N2.5 billion on gratuity and pensions for retired state civil servants.
The senior special assistant (SSA) to the governor on information, Hon. Basiru Sharubutu Abubakar, disclosed this in Kaduna.
He said the gratuity and pension arrears settled from 1999 till date.
He stated that the Nasarawa state government has recruited 3000 new teachers for secondary schools and is currently employing 2000 new teachers for primary schools.
On scholarship, the governor’s aides said many scholarships have been given to students of higher institutions to support their studies and learning, among other things.
He stated that Governor Sule, to ensure youth development and set up skills acquisition centres, has trained many youths in different skills of their choice to make them self-reliant.
Sharubutu said the state government had constructed schools, hospitals, and roads across the 13 local government areas.
The SSA further explained that Nasarawa being an agrarian state, Gov. Sule, through the state Ministry of Agriculture, had distributed fertilisers, improved seeds, and other agricultural implements to the farmers at a subsidised rate to encourage them to grow enough cash and food crops for the state and the nation at large.
He said palliatives such as rice and maize worth N5 000 each have been given to the poor across the 13 local government areas of the state.
According to him, food support brought a bit of relief to the people.
Hon. Sharubutu said that due to the hard work and sincerity of Governor Sule’s administration, the state’s Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) has increased from N500 million to N1.5 billion monthly.
The SSA, however, said recently Governor Sule approved the promotion of many civil servants in the state to enhance their productivity.
On security, he said the state government, in collaboration with all the security agencies, is working very hard to ensure the security of the people’s lives and property.
Sharubutu then appealed to the entire people of the state to maintain peace and give all the needed support and cooperation to Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration so that they could enjoy more of democracy’s dividends.
