The Airport Police Command has announced plans to commemorate fallen officers and promote stronger community relations as part of activities marking National Police Day 2026, themed: “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Adeola, disclosed this in a post shared on X on Friday. He noted that the celebration would also serve as a platform to deepen engagement with the public and build trust within the aviation community and beyond.

A lineup of activities has been scheduled to mark the occasion. The events will kick off on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise, followed by a walkathon on Tuesday, March 31. On Wednesday, April 1, the Command will conduct public sensitisation campaigns, targeting drivers and other stakeholders within the airport environment.

As part of efforts to honour fallen heroes, families of deceased officers will receive recognition on Thursday, April 2, including the presentation of cheques in appreciation of their sacrifices.

The celebrations will conclude on Tuesday, April 7, at Eagle Square with a grand finale featuring a ceremonial parade, tactical displays, and other activities showcasing police professionalism.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the commissioner of police, Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, said the occasion provides an opportunity to honour officers who lost their lives in service while inspiring a new generation of personnel committed to professionalism and community service.

“National Police Day gives us the opportunity not only to honour the heroes who have laid down their lives in service but also to inspire a new generation of police officers committed to professionalism and community service,” she said.

She emphasised the importance of public engagement in effective policing, noting that the activities are designed to strengthen collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.

“Our engagement with the public is central to effective policing. Through these celebrations, we hope to strengthen the trust and partnership between the Airport Police Command and the communities we serve,” she added.

“We are fully prepared to participate actively in the National Police Day events. This is our chance to demonstrate commitment, honour our heroes, and reinforce the values of service and trust that guide our work every day,” Ogunbode concluded.
