Navy, Federal Fire Service Combat Inferno At Popular Abuja Plaza

Firefighters of the Nigerian Navy and officials of the Federal Fire Services, Abuja, on Monday, combated a raging fire at UTC Shopping Plaza, Garki, Abuja.

Navy Spokesman, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Navy firemen were called in to assist the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the National Defence College (NDC) Fire Service in fighting the inferno.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Navy Firemen, a sub-unit of Naval Headquarters Garki Abuja were called to action yesterday 15th April, 2024 and helped avert what would have been a massive inferno at the popular UTC Shopping Plaza in Garki.

“According to the source, an electric spark in one of the plaza shops ignited the fire outbreak with the potential to consume many other shops & properties.

“However, as the fire surged, the NN Firemen were called in to assist the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the National Defence College (NDC) Fire Service in fighting the flames.

“On arrival, the NN Firemen swung into action and the situation was brought under control. Thankfully no lives were lost and damage to properties was limited,” the stamen read.
