The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has said the rumoured cancelation of the election was the handy work of his detractors.
According to him, the election has been fair, credible and peaceful.
He said at about 5pm Saturday, over 152 lawyers have exercised their franchise.
Before the election, the president of the association and the Attornet-General of the Federation, Prince Latest Fagbemi, SAN, have been at loggerheads over the conduct of the election.
While Fagbemi wanted the election postponed, Mazi Osigwe insisted that it must go on.
The NBA president said, “Please, disregard the rumour about the cancelation or suspension of the election.
“The election is going on very well and over 150 lawyers have voted at about 5pm.
The available results as at press time show Oyikansola Badejo Okunsanya, SAN, leading by 11,185 votes followed by Larger Omoyemi Akangbe, 7,321 votes and Aare Muyiwa Akinboro with 5,490 votes.
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) apologised for the delay in the commencement of voting.
As at about 7.35 am, Saturday, election was yet to commence, which necessitated the apology.
