The President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation and Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has expressed condolences to Anthony Joshua and the families of the two individuals who reportedly lost their lives in Monday’s road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Edun, in a statement on Tuesday, described Joshua as a national treasure and extended the boxing community’s prayers for his recovery.

“On behalf of the entire Nigerian boxing family, I express my deepest condolences to our national treasure, Anthony Joshua, and the families of the two individuals who passed away.

“The loss of life is always deeply distressing, and our thoughts and prayers are with you, Anthony, and the affected families at this difficult time,” Edun stated.

“As a boxing community, we pray for your speedy recovery and that the souls of the dearly departed rest in peace,’’ also said.

The accident reportedly occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday when the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and three others collided with a stationary truck in Makun, Ogun State, near the Danco Filling Station before the Sagamu Interchange.

The Ogun and Lagos State governments were quoted as confirming that Joshua is in stable condition and receiving medical care at a specialised hospital in Lagos.

The 35-year-old former two-time heavyweight champion had been in Nigeria ahead of planned attendance at various sporting events and community engagements following his reported knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19.
