NCF Announces Squad For ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced a formidable 14-member squad that will represent Nigeria at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier scheduled to take place from December 7 to 18, 2023 in Uganda.

The selected players have been through a series of training camps and fully prepared for the task ahead.

NCF in a statement announcing the squad said it is a blend of experienced and young talented players that have been listed in the final list for the T20 qualifiers.

Blessing Etim will lead the squad once again and she will be assisted by Favour Esiegbe with Victory Igbinedion and Chukwuonye making the list and will be making their debuts for the Female Yellow Greens.

Also in the squad are Esther Sandy, Salome Sunday, Lucky Piety, Adekunle Adeshola, Lilian Udeh, Racheal Samson, Peculiar Agboya, Rukayat Abdulrasaq, Sarah Etim and Abigail Igbobie

Nigeria will battle Namibia, Rwanda and Uganda in Group B’ where the top two teams will advance to the semifinal.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, the team head coach, Mr. Leke Oyede, expressed optimism about his side’s chances. “We have been working hard over the last couple of months to fine tune our skills and work on the shortcomings from our last Kwibuka tournament in Rwanda. We understand that it is a very competitive tournament but we have put in the hard work and we believe we will be able to express ourselves during the games and show how much we have improved as a team,” he said.’

Nigeria’s team departed the country yesterday ahead of their opening match against Namibia on Sunday, December 10.
