The Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made 16 seizures of assorted items and generated N162 million from import duty in October this year.

The command described the revenue as the highest since the reopening of Kamba Border.

It listed the seized items as 284 parcels (Laptop size) of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp), four used vehicles (two used Honda Civic cars, one used man diesel truck and one tipper truck).

The command has also facilitated the export of locally manufactured goods worth N2 billion and made seizures of various contraband goods with a duty paid value (DPV) of N78. 562 million for the period under review.

In a press statement issued by the customs area controller, Mr Joseph Attah, he said the successes recorded by command in its suppression of smuggling; revenue generation and trade facilitation were achieved through strict enforcement of extant rules.

Attah said, “In our undaunted effort to nip smuggling activities in the bud within the nook and crannies of the command, we directed our operatives to intensify vigilance across vast bushes and all the waterways within Kebbi State.

“To this end, the effort yielded 16 seizures of assorted items which include, but not limited to, the following: 284 parcels (Laptop size) of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp), four used vehicles (which are two used Honda Civic cars, one used man diesel truck and one tipper truck), 139 bales of second-hand clothes, 345 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), 2,250 litres of PMS, 38 cartons of whitening (bleaching) cream, 80 pieces of solar batteries, among others.”

The state commander of NDLEA, Sule Usman, who received the seized cannabis sativa, commended Attah for deepening the cooperation between NCS and the anti-drug agency.

Sule said this was the third time in seven months that the Kebbi command under Attah was making seizures of cannabis in large quantity.
