Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, son of governorship candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and immediate-past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has petitioned the State Police Command over alleged defamatory remarks made against him by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to incumbent Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The petition, dated June 17, 2026, was filed through the law firm of A.A. Shirawa, Nasirudeen & Partners and signed by Barrister Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse.

Addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the petition alleged that Sunusi Bature made the alleged defamatory remarks during a political gathering in Kano on June 13,2026.

According to the petition, the governor’s spokesperson “categorically mentioned the name of our Client and described him as the facilitator of collecting gratification known as (Awwalaja) from the 44 Local Government Chairmen and handed over the said gratification to his biological father.”

The petition further alleged that Bature claimed the former deputy governor, who also served as Commissioner for Local Government, used the funds “to buy plots and farmlands.”

Mujahid Gwarzo’s legal team maintained that the allegations were false and defamatory, arguing that the comments gained widespread circulation through social media.

The lawyers said the publication had caused significant damage to their client’s reputation and urged law enforcement authorities to intervene.

“In view of the foregoing, we hereby lodge this complaint for our Client via your good office to investigate and take appropriate action,” the petition reads.

As of the time of filing this report, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition, while the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue a statement on the complaint.
