The youth wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the party leadership for extending the deadline for the sale and processing of expression of interest and nomination forms, describing the decision as a major relief for young aspirants.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NDC Youth Agenda said the extension would provide many young Nigerians with additional time to mobilise resources needed to participate in the party’s nomination process ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement, signed by the group’s founding coordinator, Preye J. Ketebu-Brown, described the development as evidence of a “new dawn” in political party administration in Nigeria.

According to Ketebu-Brown, the decision reflects a responsive and people-oriented leadership style within the party.

“The extension of deadlines for the sale and processing of expression of interest and nomination forms is yet another testament to a new dawn in political party administration in Nigeria as exemplified by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” he said.

He explained that many young aspirants had faced difficulties raising funds for nomination forms due to the prevailing economic realities in the country, adding that appeals from different parts of Nigeria influenced the party leadership’s decision.

“To raise the necessary funds for the purchase of forms was a daunting task for many struggling but determined young aspirants,” he stated.

Ketebu-Brown said Nigerians had long desired a leadership that listens to the concerns of the people and responds appropriately.

“Nigerians have been yearning for listening leadership; leadership that feels the pulse of the masses and aligns with their collective preference,” he added.

The youth leader also commended the party’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, the party chairman, Moses Cleopas, and other members of the leadership for ensuring a smooth nomination process.

He noted that the extended timetable would particularly benefit young aspirants by giving them more time to raise funds and broaden consultations across their constituencies.

“The extended timetable favours the youths the most as they need more time to engage broadly in order to generate needed funds for their respective forms,” he said.

Ketebu-Brown further urged Nigerian youths to join the party in large numbers, describing the NDC as a welcoming platform for young people seeking political participation and inclusion.

“We beckon to Nigerian youths to feel at home in the Nigeria Democratic Congress and continue registering en masse into the party,” he added.
