Speaking at the NDDC Annual Moot and Mock Trial Competition for Law Faculties in the Niger Delta, held at the Nigerian Law School in Port Harcourt, NDDC managing director and CEO, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized the commission’s ongoing efforts to enhance capacity, alleviate poverty, and combat violence and crime through educational initiatives.

“The current leadership of the NDDC is committed to maintaining its crucial role in the advancement of education.

“It is through these ongoing efforts that the Niger Delta region can achieve sustainable development, enhance capacity, alleviate poverty, and combat violence and crime effectively,” Dr Ogbuku stated.

Dr Ogbuku highlighted the importance of legal education in the commission’s strategy to foster development in the region.

He said, “We aim to bolster the development of legal education by continuing initiatives like this one, as well as other similar interventions.

“These endeavours are intended to enhance existing capacity and establish new capacity where it is lacking.”

The Moot and Mock Trial Competition serves as a practical training ground for law students, providing them with hands-on experience in legal proceedings and advocacy.

The event underscores the NDDC’s commitment to nurturing future legal professionals who will contribute to the region’s stability and growth.

In addition to supporting legal education, he added that the NDDC’s educational initiatives span various sectors, aiming to create a well-rounded and capable workforce that can drive the region’s development forward.

“As the commission continues to invest in educational programmes, it remains focused on its mission to improve the lives of the Niger Delta’s residents and promote long-term regional stability and prosperity.”
