Chairman and chief executive officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd), has commended the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies for the rescue of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and another abducted person in the South-East.
LEADERSHIP had reported the rescue of the kidnapped prospective corps members on Wednesday
Marwa, in a statement issued by the NDLEA director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Thursday, described the successful operation as a victory for Nigeria and evidence of what coordinated and intelligence-driven security operations could achieve.
He said the safe return of the victims to their families demonstrated the courage, professionalism and unity of purpose among the country’s security agencies.
“The safe return of these young Nigerians to their families is a testament to the courage, professionalism and unity of purpose of our security agencies,” Marwa said.
According to him, corps members remained among Nigerians who deserved the protection of the country, particularly as they undertake national service.
“Our corps members are the nation’s best, serving their fatherland with hope and idealism. Nigeria owes them protection, and today our gallant men and women have delivered,” he said.

The NDLEA boss, who is a retired military officer, said it was important to highlight and commend successful operations by security agencies under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“As a retired military officer serving under the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Tinubu, it is imperative for us to draw public attention to this kind of achievement by our security agencies and equally commend them,” he stated.
Marwa also commended security agencies for a series of rescue operations carried out across the country in recent months, saying the operations had freed abducted persons and restored hope to affected families.
He said every life rescued represented a victory in the collective fight against insecurity.
“Every life rescued is a triumph for our collective resolve. These operations show that criminals cannot outrun a determined and united security architecture,” he added.
The NDLEA chairman further pledged the agency’s continued cooperation with sister security agencies, particularly in tackling the links between illicit drugs and violent crime.
He noted that drug trafficking and abuse often contributed to kidnapping, banditry and other forms of violent criminality.
“Where drugs flow, insecurity thrives. That is why the NDLEA will keep working with sister agencies to dismantle the networks that fund and fuel criminality, and we will deepen intelligence-sharing and joint operations,” Marwa said.
He urged the security agencies to sustain the momentum in their operations and called on Nigerians to support them by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
Marwa also wished the rescued corps members a speedy recovery and successful reunion with their families.
