The National Democracy Stakeholders Group (NDSG), in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art (NGA), has called for submissions of artworks for its maiden National Art of Honour.

The National Art of Honour seeks to immortalise Nigerian leaders, dead and alive, from 1914 to date, through individual or collective portraits that will form part of Nigeria’s official cultural archive.

Artists must submit original portraits of Nigerian leaders (Governors-General, Prime Minister, Head of State, or President) in the form of Painting (oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, or watercolour), Photography (photographic print on canvas), and Sculpture (fibreglass).

Artworks can span the colonial era (1914 – 1959), 1st Republic (1960 – 1966), 1st Military Intervention (1966 – 1979), 2nd Republic (1979 – 1983), 2nd Military Intervention (1983 – 1999), 3rd Republic (1993), 25 Years of Sustained Democracy (1999 – to date).

original entries must be submitted with the artist’s name, title of artwork, size, and year of creation attached to NGA branches across the country, including Abuja, Abeokuta, Abakaliki, Bauchi, Benin, Calabar, Enugu, FCT, Gombe, Igbo Ukwu, Ilorin, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Lafia, Lagos, Lokoja, Maiduguri, Makurdi, Minna, Osogbo, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Umuahia, Uyo, and Zamfara.
