The Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has said it is committed to conducting a credible presidential primary election on May 23.
It also suspended 27 members for acts of indiscipline, anti-party activities, and complicity in the desecration of the party’s national secretariat.
The suspended members include Eneyi G. Zidougha, Hilda Dokubo, Lincolin Charles, and former National Secretary, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, among others.
This was contained in a communique signed and released on Wednesday in Abuja, by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Special Adviser to Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman.
The NEC meeting was held in Abuja on Tuesday, and the communique was released on Wednesday.
The NEC approved the party’s timetable for the 2027 general elections, with the presidential primary scheduled for May 23, 2026.
“The party is committed to a free, fair, and transparent primary election,” Asogwa stated.
The party will submit its membership register to INEC on April 15, 2026, while governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly primaries are set for May 15, 2026.
Asogwa said the NEC has taken decisive action against members who have engaged in activities detrimental to the party’s interests.
The communique said the party is expanding its membership register through a hybrid approach, combining digital and manual registration, to modernise its database and strengthen participatory democracy.
“NEC has also resolved to fill existing vacancies within party structures through interim appointments.
“The party’s National Convention is scheduled for April 11, 2026, while ward, local government, and state congresses are set for March 26, 28, and 31, 2026, respectively.
“We are committed to rebuilding the party and making it a formidable force in Nigerian politics,” Asogwa added.
End.
