Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party Rejects Underfunding Claim

The Labour Party led by Senator Nenadi Usman has dismissed a claim that it is suffering from underfunding.

Reacting to a claim by its former Publicity Secretary, Tony Akene, that the party is underfunded, the party said it has always operated on a limited budget.

Senior Special Adviser to Senator Nenadi Usman, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in an interview with LEADERSHIP, said Akene’s departure was likely due to unrealistic expectations about the party’s financial resources.

“Everybody knows that we don’t have the money to spend like the PDP or the APC that have a civil governance and people who think they have presidents in power,

“If before his appointment he was thinking that he was coming in to maybe dispense resources from a deep pocket, and he came in and he’s not able to see it, and he left, I don’t think the party is to blame for his departure.” he said

Asogwa also addressed the ongoing leadership dispute, saying a court judgment recognizes Senator Nenadi Usman as the national chairman of the Labour Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has acknowledged her leadership.
