A member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti State, Hon. Kolawole Akinlayo, has said that the proposed new tax reform bill is in the interest of all Nigerians.

Akinlayo, who represents Ekiti North Federal Constituency II (Ido-Osi, Moba, Ilejemeje), also said that President Bola Tinubu’s economic actions upon taking office were to rescue the country from total collapse.

The federal lawmaker spoke at his Ikosu Ekiti country home in Moba local government area at the weekend during a mega empowerment programme he organised for his constituents. Among other items, sewing machines, grinding machines, motorcycles, fridges, generating sets, bags of fertilisers, roofing sheets, knapsack spraying machines, and hair dryers were distributed to the people.

While stating that the empowerment programme was to give back to the society that has done so much for him in the past, Akinlayo disclosed that hundreds of students of higher institutions in the constitution were given bursaries worth millions of naira.

“We have also given cash gifts to many people, the majority, the aged and the widows. No fewer than 320 were selected from across the federal constituency and offered fifty thousand nairas each as a start-up pack for petty business. They were also given clothing materials.

“We are giving out all of these to empower, uplift and improve the living standard of our people, mainly artisans.

“These will do a lot in their life because, at the moment, things are hard in our society, and the little we are doing is to ease the hardship and give them succour. This is just the beginning, as we will do more with the programme held every quarter.”

Speaking at the event, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who his deputy represented,

Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye said the strong partnership he established with nine members of the National Assembly from the state is yielding the right dividends and turning around the lives of the citizens.
