The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has shifted its 2026 Elective Congress by 24 hours, with the election of the federation’s Executive Committee now scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 27, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The congress was originally fixed for Saturday, September 26, but the date was changed following the confirmation of the Super Eagles’ opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Madagascar.
Speaking at the NFF Extraordinary General Assembly held virtually on Wednesday, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau said the date change became necessary after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) agreed to schedule Nigeria’s clash with Madagascar for Friday, September 25.
Gusau explained that several candidates in the NFF election are expected to attend the Super Eagles’ match and would be unable to travel from the fixture to Lafia in time for the congress the following morning.
He said the NFF Executive Committee therefore decided to convene the Extraordinary General Assembly to present a proposal for the elective congress to be moved to Sunday, September 27.
A member of the Congress subsequently moved the motion for the change, which was immediately seconded and adopted.
The elective congress will usher in the NFF Executive Committee that will oversee Nigerian football for the next four years.
