Nigeria’s push to convince Italian youth international Michael Kayode to represent the Super Eagles is gaining serious traction.
According to ViolaNews, top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are now arranging a face-to-face meeting with the Brentford full-back, having already secured the backing of head coach Eric Chelle.
Kayode’s impressive rise in the Premier League has not gone unnoticed, and Nigeria is determined to act before Italy locks the 21-year-old into their senior setup.
NFF officials plan to use the upcoming talks to present a clear pathway for Kayode into the Super Eagles squad. The timing is crucial, as Kayode has yet to earn a senior cap for Italy despite featuring for their U18, U19, and U21 sides—and has previously called playing for the Azzurri his “primary dream.”
Notably, Kayode was left out of Italy’s senior squad by coach Gennaro Gattuso for the March European World Cup play-offs.
He was born in Borgomanero, Italy, to Nigerian parents, Victoria and Anthony.
