NGO Empowers Farmers For Livestock Production

A non-governmental organisation, Palm Frontiers Limited, has organised a three-day training programme for over 50 smallholder farmers on livestock production in Plateau State.

The training which was designed to build participants’ capacity in developing practical, scalable business models for pasture production was organised in  collaboration with the World Bank and the Plateau State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (PRES) Project in Jos.

The programme will equip L-PRES beneficiaries with the knowledge, tools and strategies needed to establish profitable, sustainable, and climate-smart pasture enterprises that enhance livestock productivity and strengthen value chains, organisers said.

Animal husbandry officer of EL- PRESS representing the state coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Nando, said livestock production had been neglected over the years, adding that they gathered not to discuss pasture for ordinary consumption by livestock but pasture as a business.

According to him, they are setting up a structure for business modeling and pasture production and the takeaway message by the participants was that pasture production should begin with them in other to ensure massive production in the state and Nigeria at large.
