NGO To Premiere ‘Caged Bird’ Film On Nigeria’s Justice System

Legend Golden Care Foundation (LGCF), a frontline non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, is set to premiere its highly anticipated blockbuster, ‘Caged Bird’. The thought-provoking movie highlights the plight of awaiting trial inmates and the systemic challenges within Nigeria’s criminal justice system.

The film, produced and funded by LGCF in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), is scheduled to premiere on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Silverbird Galleria in Abuja.

In a statement on Friday,  LGCF executive director , Mrs. Kanayo Olisa Metuh, announced that the premiere will be attended by key stakeholders in Nigeria’s criminal justice system, including government ministers, federal legislators, directors of government agencies, as well as prominent figures from the media and film industries.

Caged Bird, a 59 minutes film, which has the LGCF Executive Director as Executive Producer promises to spark crucial conversations, raise awareness to the horrid situation thousands of awaiting trial inmates in Nigerian prisons and inspire actions towards the much-needed reforms in the Nigeria criminal justice system

Produced by Promise Okaah with Morgano Media and Directed by Morgan Ukaegbu, the film captures a heartrending story of a young man who finds himself caught up in an unending awaiting trial cycle of the Nigeria’s criminal justice system while exposing the inefficiency in the system and the damaging ripple effect of rights breaches on the victim with emotional trauma on families and loved ones.

Caged Bird, which stars famous actors including, Tobi Makinde, Ngozi Nwosu, Kelechi Udegbe, Peace Christopher among others aims to support human rights efforts and promote advocacy by inspiring viewers to advocate for legal and systemic reforms in alignment with global efforts to uphold and protect human rights.

The film also features compelling interviews from the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN and JJ Usman SAN.

LGCF in the statement reassured of its commitment and advocacy towards addressing the systemic challenges within Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
