The chief judge of Niger State and chairman of the Niger State Judicial Service Commission (NJSC) Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, has said that the judiciary will continue to promote efficiency and competency through rewarding, training, and retraining staff.
The chief judge stated this yesterday while presenting award to the 14 best-performing staff in the promotion examinations conducted by the NJSC.
“It is a matter within public knowledge that there has been a drastic decline in the performance and productivity of judicial staff. Some of the factors responsible were poor supervision and the absence of proper, efficient, and effective assessment methodologies and strategies,” she declared.
The chief judge disclosed that in line with extant regulations and in a bid to promote efficiency and competence in the administration of justice, the state judiciary has decided to embark on intensive training for all categories of staff.
Justice Halima Abdulmalik expressed shock at efforts made to sensitise and enlighten staff on the need to fill the APER FORM which is one of the fundamental requirements or condition precedent to eligibility for promotion saying that many staff either failed or elected not to fill the form.
She stated further that “We have seen the dire need for training even as we note that one man can take a horse to water but twenty can’t make it drink. In other words, unless everyone makes an effort to learn and better himself, no one can do it for him. We, therefore, intend to embark on intensive training for all categories of staff, subject to availability of funds.”
The chief judge expressed the hope that the recognition of the awardees will propel others to work harder in the overall interest of the Niger State judiciary.
The beneficiaries include one from the Directorate Cadre, five from the Magistrate cadre, and seven from other categories of staff from the High Court and Sharia Court of Appeal, Niger State.
