Niger State governor Abubakar Sani Bello has inaugurated the state’s first  Basic Science Model Primary School in Suleja accommodating only 30 pupils in a classroom.

The project is said to be first of its kind in the state and is a pilot scheme initiated by the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The governor who expressed delight with the project explained that “it’s a policy of catching them young as far as science is concerned.”

“It’s a special school at a primary level so that they cultivate interest in science. Once they get the foundation, we believe it will be easier for them when they get to secondary school,” he further explained.

The governor-elect, Umar Mohammed Bago also commended the project, assuring that his administration will consolidate on it as it is in line with his vision for the state.

“We are going to consolidate on this. It’s in tandem with our policy and vision for Niger State. We will replicate it statewide”, he assured.

The commissioner for education, Hajiya Hannatu Salihu described the initiative as laudable, adding that it will serve as a “feeder to science secondary schools in the state.”

She disclosed that a special entrance examination will be set for children from ward level across the 25 local government areas of the state.

The chairman, SUBEB Saidu Ibrahim explained that similar schools will be established in three other towns of Lapai, Beri and New Bussa.
