In an effort to check redundancy, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has said the state government would empower all the state’s local government vice chairmen to focus on women, widow and children’s welfare.
Our correspondent gathered that in line with his campaign promises, the governor has worked for the emergence of women as vice chairpersons of all 25 local government councils in the state during the November 1 local government election.
The governor made the new policy framework known during a retreat for the newly elected chairmen and commissioners at Government House in Minna.
He stated; “The vice chairpersons will be adequately mobilised and empowered to focus on women, widows and children at the grassroots level.”
While saying that the new move was not to erode the power of the chairmen, he said the chairmen would focus on administrative duties.
The governor who advocated the need for synergy between the political leaders and their subordinates to fast-track development in the state, stressed the need for team work among stakeholders in his government.
He said by relating well with one another, they would be able to think outside the box and look inwards to tap from resources within and move the state forward.
