Niger Partners ECOWAS To Power 23 Schools

Niger State government is collaborating with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to supply power to six boarding secondary schools and 17 primary school facilities in the state.

The commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Suleiman Umar, stated this during the quarterly briefing of the Ministry of Information.

Represented by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Mohamed Gana, revealed that a partnership is ongoing with the State Electricity Regulatory Commission to strengthen investments in power supply.

He said the people of Ibeto who have suffered lack of electricity for about 12 years would soon breathe a sigh of relief as the electrification project was almost completed.

Umar said the present administration would continue to provide renewable energy to promote a safer environment and stable power supply to boost socioeconomic activities.

As part of the efforts, he said 100 kilowatts of power would be generated through the New Niger Agenda with the counterparts funding of $150 million from Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
