Following reported cases of attacks on teachers by students with dangerous weapons in secondary schools across Niger State, the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has moved against the trend.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that students in some of these schools are in the habit of outrightly forming themselves into groups to launch violent attacks on teachers who by their estimation was too hard on them.

Consequently, in a statement issued by the commissioner for education, Dr Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, and signed by the information officer, Jibril Kodo, said the negative development is posing a significant security threat in schools.

Mohammed said the ministry has zero-tolerance to violence in schools and will take all steps legally permissible to stem the trend.

She expressed worry over the detrimental impact of such attacks on the safety and well-being of teachers, as well as the overall learning environment.

The commissioner therefore emphasized that the physical and emotional well-being of educators is of utmost importance and will not be compromised.

„To address this concerning issue, the ministry has called upon parents to take immediate action and engage their children positively to appreciate the importance of respecting and showing empathy to teachers and fellow students,“ the commissioner added.
