The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT) has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the 2025 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Agricultural Commercial Farm Grant of one billion Naira.
LEADERSHIP findings revealed that the 10 government owned universities across the country benefitted from the special intervention fund of TETFund aimed at enhancing agricultural commercial farm projects and food security.
It was learnt that out of 72 Federal and 65 State Universities in Nigeria, 30 of them applied for the grant, with only 15 selected and eventually 10 of them awarded the grant with FUT, Minna ranking second overall.
LEADERSHIP further findings revealed that the award was the outcome of TETFund Validation Team for the Agricultural Commercial Farm Evaluation that visited the universities in July , to assess their readiness and infrastructure.
The team to FUT Minna it will be recalled was , led by Dr. Suleiman Zangina (TETFund representative) and Mallam Lawal Mohammed Faruk, Director of Research, Innovation and Information Technology at the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The vice-chancellor of FUT Minna Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, announced the selection of the university as beneficiary during the 513th Regular Meeting of the Senate held at the University Auditorium, Main Campus.
He said the grant was aimed at boosting the University’s agricultural research capacity, strengthening food production, and generating revenue for the institution.
Prof. Kuta used the meeting to laud the efforts of the research proposal drafting committee led by the Director of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID), Prof. Chiemela Enyinnaya Chinma, for their outstanding work.
He said “This award is a timely and welcome development. It provides an opportunity for us to revitalize our commercial farm project and contribute meaningfully to national food production”
