Nigeria and the Kingdom of Netherlands have strengthened bilateral relations to enhance critical sectors of trade and investment, energy transition, agriculture and water management for the mutual benefits of both countries.

A statement issued yesterday by the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, noted that this development emerged when the permanent secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, received Mr. Robert Zimmerman, the Sahel Envoy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and members of the delegation in Abuja for a comprehensive dialogue focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and addressing shared regional and global challenges.

Discussions during the meeting highlighted the longstanding Nigeria–Netherlands relationship, dating back to 1960, and covered other priority areas including Youth empowerment, Migration Governance, Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea, Counter-terrorism, and Multilateral Cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a partnership based on mutual respect, equality, and shared values, with emphasis on addressing the root causes of insecurity, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening people-to-people ties. The engagement also underscored the role of cultural diplomacy, knowledge exchange, and private-sector collaboration in advancing inclusive growth.
