Nigeria is officially out of the race for the 2024 Oscars Film Awards.
‘C.J ‘Fiery’ Obasi’s Mami Water, which made Oscar’s Longlist International Feature Film category was conspicuously absent in the recently released The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science Shortlists in 10 Oscar Categories – which include documentary feature film, documentary short film, international feature film, makeup and hairstyling, music (Original Score), music (Original Sound), animated short film, live action short film, sound, and visual effects.
Of the 88 longlisted films in the International Feature Film categories, 15 were shortlisted, with Morocco’s ‘The Mother of All Lies ‘and T’unisia’s Four Daughters’, still in the running.
Films that made the cut across multiple categories include Barbie, Oppenheimer, Killer of the Flower Moon, The Colour Purple, Spider-man: Across The Spider-Verse, and The Zone of Interest.
Nominations voting on the Shortlist run January 11 – 16, with the official nominations for top five to be announced January 23, ahead of the Oscars Award ceremony scheduled for March 10.
