Nigeria Ranked Most Generous Country In The World

Nigeria has been ranked as the most generous country in the world, according to the latest global study on charitable giving released by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

The international charity organisation published the findings in its latest World Giving Report, which surveyed more than 60,000 people across 105 countries to analyse global giving patterns and the various factors that drive generosity.

The report revealed that Nigeria topped the global index, with citizens donating an average of 2.8 percent of their total income to charities, religious causes, or individuals in need. This milestone comes despite the persistent economic hardships facing many households across the country.

On a broader scale, the study highlighted that the ten most generous countries in the world are all located within Africa and Asia. The research showed that global giving saw a slight decline, with 61 percent of overall respondents making financial donations in 2025, compared to 64 percent recorded in 2024.

The report also noted a significant regional difference in how much people give from their personal earnings. On average, individuals globally donated 1 percent of their income. However, regional data showed that Africans gave an average of 1.6 percent of their income, compared to an average of 0.6 percent donated by individuals in Europe.

Reacting to the findings, the Managing Director of the Charities Aid Foundation, Mark Greer, emphasised that giving is deeply personal and shaped by distinct values, experiences, and financial circumstances. He called for greater action and dialogue among individuals, businesses, and governments to build stronger, more resilient societies.
