Nigeria will stage its National Trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games from 20 to 22 June at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Sports Complex in Lagos, as athletes compete for places on Team Nigeria ahead of Glasgow 2026.
The three-day championship will serve as the country’s official selection event for the Commonwealth Games, providing athletes with an opportunity to meet qualifying standards and secure spots in the national team bound for Scotland.
The trials are expected to feature some of Nigeria’s leading track and field stars, alongside a new generation of emerging talents eager to make their mark on the international stage.
Among the headline names expected to compete are Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Fakorede Adekalu, Tyler Johnson and Ogundiran Blessing, with several other elite performers also set to participate.
The National Sports Commission said the trials underscore its commitment to a transparent and merit-based selection process, ensuring that the nation’s best athletes are given the opportunity to represent Nigeria at one of the world’s premier multi-sport events.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August in Glasgow, with Nigeria aiming to assemble a strong contingent capable of competing for honours across multiple disciplines.
