Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have disrupted a suspected terrorist logistics network in Kogi State, intercepting couriers and recovering a cache of ammunition in a series of intelligence-driven operations.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade.
According to the statement, the operations, conducted over a three-month period, were aimed at dismantling terrorist supply routes and denying criminal elements freedom of movement within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
He said, “In one of the operations carried out on March 29, 2026, troops deployed along the Jamata–Owara Road in Lokoja Local Government Area intercepted a suspected logistics courier riding a motorcycle.”
He added that a thorough search revealed that the motorcycle had been specially modified with a concealed compartment for the covert transportation of ammunition.
According to Lt. Abdullahi, preliminary investigations linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting further follow-up operations.
“Building on that success, troops arrested a high-profile ammunition courier identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as “Nasara,” who had reportedly been on security watch lists.
“In a related operation on April 20, 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence mounted a snap checkpoint at Oshokoshoko along the Obajana–Kabba Road. During the exercise, a Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi to Obajana was intercepted,” he said.
He disclosed that a search of the vehicle led to the arrest of two suspected terrorist logistics couriers, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.
“Security personnel recovered 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat. Other items found in the vehicle included two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card,” he said.
The Army said the suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and necessary action.
The statement noted that the successful operations highlight the vigilance and proactive posture of troops in disrupting terrorist logistics networks and enhancing security across the operational environment.
