A Nigerian-origin researcher, Mr. Innocent Asevameh, is spearheading a pioneering e-government research initiative, extending from rural Illinois, USA, to potentially revolutionize public service delivery in rural Nigeria. With a background in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and two master’s degrees from Western Illinois University, Mr. Innocent’s project builds on a successful study in rural Illinois to assess e-government efficiency across various rural regions in the U.S.

The project aims to evaluate online government services, identify areas for improvement, and create a national framework to enhance e-government service efficiency and accessibility in rural communities. This framework could serve as a model for countries like Nigeria to empower their rural areas through digital governance.

This research initiative holds significant implications for the Nigerian economy, offering a model for efficient and accessible e-government services. By implementing such strategies, Nigeria could enhance public service delivery in rural areas, reducing the urban-rural divide and potentially increasing economic activity, resource allocation efficiency, and citizen participation in rural regions.

The project also acts as a catalyst for innovation in rural startups and businesses in both the United States and Nigeria. By integrating efficient e-government practices, rural entrepreneurs can gain easier access to essential government services, business registration processes, and market information, fostering a conducive environment for business growth and innovation.

Adapting the learnings from this research could enable Nigerian startups and businesses to use digital tools to expand their reach, optimize operations, and compete in broader markets, building sustainable and future-proof rural economies.
