Nigerian youth handball teams have secured a remarkable double victory at the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase, held in Lomé, Togo, on Saturday.
Both the Under-18 and Under-20 squads were crowned champions, showcasing their dominance on the regional stage.
The Under-18 team delivered an impressive performance in their final, convincingly defeating Ivory Coast with a score of 32–19. Their tactical superiority and control throughout the match solidified their position as a formidable force in African youth handball.
Following suit, the Under-20 side maintained Nigeria’s winning streak, overcoming Benin Republic 39–29 in their final encounter.
Their clinical execution and attacking prowess ensured a comfortable victory, securing the nation’s second title of the tournament.
These significant triumphs not only crown both the Under-18 and Under-20 teams as champions of the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase but also guarantee their qualification for the continental stage.
They will now represent the zone against Africa’s top teams, a testament to Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to grassroots handball development, as championed by the National Sports Commission.
