The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has predicted rainfall and thunderstorms in the north central states between April 1 and 3, 2026.
As a result, the meteorological agency has called on airline operators to get adequate weather predictions of the areas they are operating in order to avoid any mishap.
According to the predictions released on Tuesday, the agency said on April 1, North central region would witness cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine anticipated over the region during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Kogi and Benue States.
For April 2, the predictions showed “Cloudy skies with sunny intervals over the north central region with prospects of isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa States during the morning hours. Later in the day, widespread thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across of the region.”
For the day 3, which is April 3, 2026, NiMet predicted “Isolated thunderstorms anticipated over the region in the morning hours. In the afternoon/evening hours, isolated thunderstorms are expected over most parts of the region.”
For other northern region, there would be sunny skies with patches of clouds expected during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorm accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Taraba State on April 1; Sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region with prospects of thunderstorms with light rains over parts of Taraba and Kaduna States during the morning hours and later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains are expected over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi and Kaduna States on April 2.
On April 3, 2026, the region will witness sunny skies with patches of clouds during morning hours and thunderstorms with moderate rains expected over parts of Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna, and Taraba States later in the day.
For the southern region, there would be cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over the entire region. Rains are expected too on day one.
On day 2, there would be cloudy atmosphere over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over the entire southern region.
For the 3rd day, there would be cloudy atmosphere with strong chances of thunderstorms with moderate rains expected over Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Dela, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States during the morning hours. Widespread thunderstorms are anticipated across the region during the afternoon/evening hours.
The agency noted that “Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur and warned the public to take adequate precaution and ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision.
