The acting comptroller-general of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, has charged officers and men of the service to desist from unprofessional conduct.
Adepoju gave the charge during a parade in Lagos to mark her takeover.
Adepoju, a deputy comptroller-general of NIS, was appointed acting comptroller-general of the service following the retirement of Mr. Isah Jere, the immediate past comptroller-general.
According to the CG, the passport control officers must ensure that passport applicants were served promptly and with dignity.
“I have decided to focus on personnel welfare and passport issues because these two areas have witnessed lots of complaints from both the applicants and personnel of the immigration service.
“The welfare of personnel are priority to her and promised meeting with officers and men to resolve it.”
The acting CG stated that all passport offices under the leadership of the passport control officers must ensure that all passport applicants must be served promptly and with dignity.
She said there should be no delay in any passport offices and no applicants or Nigerians must be put under any hideous task or maltreatment .
She however, promised to set up more passport point offices, especially in Lagos with a dense population, to address the issue of passport delay.
On his part, the Passport control officer, Mr. Sanni Jega, a Deputy Comptroller, stressed that applicants should not patronize touts, but rather, apply online by themselves.
He said there was no scarcity of passport booklets, but explained that delays in processing applications were usually as a result of applicants supplying wrong National Identification Number (NIN).
