The Nationwide League One has penalised Green Beret FC with a total fine of N1.5 million and a two-season suspension for its officials following a violent assault on match officials after the club’s game against Zamfara United.

In a swift ruling issued on Friday, the NLO Secretariat expressed deep concern over the incident, particularly noting that the referee was left bloodied on the pitch.

The league described the violence as “completely unacceptable” and damaging to football’s reputation, adding that such behaviour carries severe repercussions and reflects poorly on the offending club.

The NLO also pointed out that this was not Green Beret’s first violent episode — a similar situation occurred last season. The league stressed that all parties must work together to ensure safety for players, officials, and fans.

  2. Green Beret FC is fined N1,000,000 for violent conduct, payable within seven days.
  3. Green Beret FC must pay N500,000 to cover the medical expenses of the injured referees, also within seven days.
  4. Green Beret FC and all its officials are suspended from the Nationwide League One for two seasons.
  5. Green Beret FC must submit, within 48 hours, the identities of the personnel involved in stabbing the referee.
