NNPP Faction Urges INEC To Obey Court Ruling On Leadership

A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly comply with a Federal Capital Territory High Court ruling recognising the Agbo Major-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The demand follows a judgment delivered by Bello Kawu, which directed INEC to immediately recognise the leadership of Agbo Major.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos, the party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, criticised the electoral body for failing to update its records and upload the party’s national executives on its website as ordered.

He warned that INEC must not disregard valid court rulings, stressing that the judgment clearly restrained the commission from engaging with the rival Ahmed Ajuji-led NWC linked to the Kwankwasiya Movement.

According to the statement, the court had given INEC 72 hours to reflect the authentic leadership of the party, led by its founder and Board of Trustees Chairman, Boniface Aniebonam.

The faction also faulted INEC for allegedly accepting correspondence from the Ajuji group seeking a stay of execution, despite the absence of any court order granting such a request.

“The notice of appeal and motion for stay do not prevent the enforcement of a valid court order. No stay of execution has been granted or served on INEC,” the statement emphasised.

Reaffirming its position, the faction insisted that the court’s directive was clear and binding, mandating INEC to recognise the Major-led NWC and revert to the party’s original logo.

The group urged members nationwide to remain calm and continue grassroots mobilisation, expressing confidence that the party would fully participate in the 2027 general elections.

It also reiterated that individuals previously expelled for anti-party activities remain expelled, while extending an olive branch to former members who defected, encouraging them to return as the party positions itself for future electoral success.
