The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured the travelling public and aviation stakeholders that there is no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria, even as it intensifies preventive measures across international airports in response to reported cases in parts of Central Africa.

FAAN said it has activated robust health surveillance and monitoring systems at all international airports to ensure early detection and prevention of any possible importation of the virus into the country.

In a statement, the Authority explained that it is working in close collaboration with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and other relevant agencies to strengthen passenger screening procedures, particularly for travellers arriving from high-risk regions.

Passengers are being screened for symptoms associated with Ebola, while any suspected case is immediately isolated and subjected to secondary medical evaluation in line with national and international health protocols.

FAAN also disclosed that it has enhanced coordination with airport stakeholders, intensified staff sensitisation, and reinforced emergency response procedures to ensure swift and effective action where necessary.

While maintaining that Nigeria currently has no confirmed Ebola case, the Authority urged passengers to remain calm and comply with all health screening measures at airports.

Travellers were also advised to promptly report any symptoms to health officials as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and maintain safe airport operations nationwide.
