No Fire At MMIA Terminal 2, Smoke Caused By Fire Suppression System – FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire outbreak at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, saying the smoke that caused concern on Sunday was triggered by the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.

The clarification followed an earlier advisory issued after smoke was observed within the terminal, prompting concerns among passengers and airport users.

In an update issued on Sunday, FAAN said preliminary investigations showed that the incident was not caused by a fire but by the activation of the terminal’s fire suppression system.

According to the authority, “Preliminary findings indicate that there was no fire at the terminal. The smoke observed within the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.”

FAAN added that the reason behind the activation of the fire suppression system is still under investigation.

“The reason for the activation of the fire suppression system is currently being investigated,” the authority stated.

The airport authority, however, assured passengers and other stakeholders that normal flight and terminal operations had resumed while efforts continued to determine the exact cause of the incident.

“Normal operations have since resumed at the terminal, while detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident,” FAAN said.

It expressed appreciation to passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the incident.

FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security across Nigeria’s airports.

“FAAN appreciates the understanding and cooperation of passengers, airlines, airport users and all stakeholders, and reiterates its commitment to the safety and security of all airport operations,” the statement added.
