A group under the aegis of United Sports Stakeholders (USS) says it has uncovered plan by the incumbent president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr Habu Gumel to instigate the electoral committee to disqualify some candidates from contesting the NOC’s election slated for December 15, 2022 in Jalingo,Taraba State.
The spokesperson for the group, Comrade Sylvanus Ofekun, in a press statement issued yesterday, alleged that Mr Gumel had perfected plans to return as NOC president unopposed even before constituted the electoral committee.
“Upon discovering that he will be facing several oppositions in Taraba state, the septuagenarian has now perfected plans to disqualify some leading aspirants as he is now mounting pressure on the electoral committee to disqualify them,” the statement read in part.
The group said that it has petitioned relevant government agencies about the old fox tactics being employed by the outgoing NOC President.
The group added that it will seek legal help to retire the man who has grounded sports in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get Mr Gumel, who is running for NOC Presidency for another four year tenure for fifth term, to respond to the allegation were abortive as he failed to pick his call nor respond to text messages sent to him before the press time yesterday.
