The Olympic Day is a date set aside for people of all ages and abilities to experience some of the magic of the Olympic Games in their own communities. The celebration is an annual event that takes place in the month of June, all over the world.

Popoola, in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos, said the programme is in conjunction with the Nigeria Sport For All Commission.

According to Popoola, the event is a platform that highlights the benefits of physical activity for people to learn about Olympic values and practice them in their everyday life.

“Engaging in exercises promotes health fitness for individuals; jogging and walking burns calories, tones muscles, shapes your body and helps de-stress the mind.

“Olympic Day has always been celebrated by NOC with fanfare nationwide and this year’s programme will not be an exception as many states are already preparing to organise the programme.

“The states that have so far registered to participate are Anambra, Gombe, Taraba, Bayelsa, Imo, and Ondo, while others are still being expected to indicate their interest in the programme,” he said.

The Chairman of NOC Sport For All Commission, Abdul Ibrahim, said that the 2024 Olympic Day celebration was being coordinated by the Commission.

“It promises to be one of the most successful events in view of the fact that almost all the states of the federation are expected to organise it in their various states.

“In Lagos, where our NOC head office is located, a series of physical fitness and recreational activities will be organized, including aerobic exercises, jogging and demonstration events.

“The celebration will be concluded with the presentation of Diploma certificates signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee,” he said.

Ibrahim noted that the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Mr Habu Gumel and other dignitaries would inaugurate the event.

He urged individuals and corporate bodies to donate their products and support the event financially in view of the mileage it would give to their companies.
