Kano State Police Command has restored normalcy in Maraba Quarters of the metropolis following the killing of a worshipper at Yusuf Garko Mosque and the subsequent mob action that claimed the life of the suspected assailant.

The victim, identified as Ladan Malam Zubairu, was reportedly slaughtered inside the mosque on Monday. Eyewitnesses said the suspect attempted to escape after the attack but was chased by an angry mob, lynched and his residence set ablaze, leading to the destruction of property in the area.
Police said operatives were promptly deployed to the scene to contain the situation and prevent further breakdown of law and order, adding that calm has since been restored.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, investigators recovered the severed throat of the victim from the suspect’s pocket. Both the victim and the suspect were confirmed dead and their remains deposited at the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, where they are awaiting autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, has directed a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and the ensuing mob violence.

The command reiterated that while efforts are ongoing to ensure public safety, acts of jungle justice would not be condoned, warning that anyone found culpable in the incident would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He quoted the commissioner to have appealed to residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
