The North Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The endorsement was announced on Wednesday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, during the North Central APC Congress, where stakeholders across the zone unanimously adopted the President through a voice vote.

Leaders and delegates at the congress, including governors, ministers, party chieftains and grassroots mobilisers, ratified the decision, with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, leading the move.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State seconded the motion, which received overwhelming approval from participants.

Speaking at the event, Akume described the endorsement as a strategic necessity, noting the region’s role in sustaining Nigeria’s unity and political stability.

He said, “This is one zone that can boast of APC’s progressive governance across the board – Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau and by extension, the FCT; you have every reason to be proud of yourselves.”

The SGF commended governors in the zone for what he termed exceptional performance, adding that their achievements reflected the impact of reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration.

He also noted that ministers from the region were serving with “marked distinction,” underscoring the North Central’s importance in the current administration.

Akume expressed confidence in the zone’s electoral strength ahead of the next general election.

“Nigeria is moving towards another election cycle; with the calibre of politicians and grassroots leaders I have seen here, I have no doubt that when votes are counted in 2027, the North Central will deliver the highest number of votes,” he said.

He, however, urged party members not to be complacent.

“Do not sleep, you must toil and sweat as if we control only 10 states, so that our victory will be huge and indisputable,” he added.

Akume also referenced improving economic indicators, stating that Nigeria’s foreign reserves had risen to $51bn.

In his remarks, Sule attributed the improving fiscal capacity of states to the policy reforms of the Tinubu administration.

“As a result of these reforms, some of us are carrying out projects without borrowing a penny; for that reason, I second the motion to adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our sole candidate for 2027,” the governor said.

The motion was thereafter put to a voice vote and adopted without dissent.

The congress had in attendance governors, deputy governors, ministers and other key stakeholders from across the North Central zone.

End.
