The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food and non-food items, including blankets and mats, to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Yobe State.
The Yobe State Coordinator of NEDC, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, disclosed this during the presentation of the relief materials to the State Controller of Corrections and the Potiskum management of the Medium Custodial Centre.
According to him, the commission supports the Yobe inmates with food and non-food items to improve their welfare and living conditions, especially during the end-of-year season.
He added that “We are in Potiskum Medium Security Custodial Centre with the State Controller of Corrections to deliver these food and non-food items.
“We are going to all the custodial centres in the State to directly deliver the same items to improve human dignity, welfare and happiness of the people in the correctional centre”, said Abbas.
In his response, the Yobe State Controller of Corrections, Mr Ortsergah J. Terver, commended the NEDC for the donation of food and non-food items, which included bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, blankets, and mats.
He expressed his appreciation to NEDC and Yobe State Government for this support and reassured them of the command’s prudent utilisation of all items received.
The Controller further commended the NEDC for establishing the NEDC Digital Literacy Centre in the Potiskum Medium Security Custodial Centre to empower and reform the inmates.
Leadership reports that NEDC fully equipped the custodial centre with laptops, printers, desktops, standing fans, flip-chart boards, executive tables and chairs, in addition to a complete set of solar power systems.
