A group under the auspices of Arewa Christian Youth Leadership Forum (ACYLF) has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointments, just as it commended the present administration of inclusive governance.

ACYLF expressed concern over recent comments made by Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, accusing President Tinubu of concentrating power within a narrow ethnic circle. It said available records showed that the North has benefited immensely from Tinubu’s administration’s policies and appointments.

ACYLF national chairman Dunijir Gatama stated that the President’s track record since May 29, 2023, speaks of an administration focused on national cohesion, regional equity, and grassroots development.

ACYLF, while enumerating Tinubu’s appointments and projects in the northern region, urged political leaders, especially from the north, to move beyond divisive rhetoric and instead focus on supporting policies that promote peace, unity, and development.

The statement reads, “While we respect the right of every citizen to hold and express opinions, we believe that such a statement, especially coming from a respected northern elder, should be rooted in verifiable facts, not assumptions that undermine national unity.

“Northern Representation at the highest level, contrary to claims of ethnic exclusivity, official records show that 71 of the President’s key appointees are from the North, compared to 63 from the South. This is not just equitable — it is evidence of deliberate balance in governance”

ACYLF added, “Some notable appointments from the North include: Sen. George Akume (North-Central) — Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu (North-East) — National Security Adviser. Lt. Gen. Christopher Musa (North-East) — Chief of Defence Staff. Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate (North-East) — Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Sen. Ibrahim Geidam (North-East) — Minister of Police Affairs. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (North West) — Budget and Economic Planning Minister. These appointments, alongside numerous others across ministries, agencies, and parastatals, show that President Tinubu has not sidelined the North — he has elevated it”

“The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, while passing through the South, is strategically designed to boost trade for the entire nation, including the North, by opening faster access to southern ports for northern goods. Provision of 4,000 tractors and massive agricultural support programs will directly benefit northern farmers, enhancing food security and rural economies”

“The administration has secured a $600 million Maersk investment into Nigeria’s seaport infrastructure, which will indirectly lower transport costs for northern traders”, the group said.
