The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has deployed 1,350 personnel across the State to strengthen security during the Yuletide season and ensure the protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, announced this on Tuesday during a press briefing on the command’s security preparedness and strategic deployment ahead of the festive period.
Agalama said the deployment followed heightened security concerns associated with the Yuletide, including increased travel, commercial activities, and large social gatherings, which often create opportunities for crimes such as phone snatching, thuggery, vandalism, banditry, and kidnapping attempts.
According to him, the corps has positioned additional tactical teams and rapid response units across urban, peri-urban, and rural areas identified as crime hotspots. The operatives will conduct sustained foot and mobile patrols at major highways, markets, motor parks, city entry and exit points, and other public places to deter criminal activities.
He added that the NSCDC has also intensified intelligence sharing and operational collaboration with other security agencies in Kano State to enhance effective crime prevention and response.
The commandant urged residents, market associations, transport unions, religious bodies, traditional rulers, and community groups to support security efforts by remaining vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious activities.
He warned criminals and vandals against tampering with public infrastructure and private property, stressing that the corps would not tolerate any breach of public peace during the festive period.
Meanwhile, the command disclosed that its operatives have arrested seven suspected criminals linked to vandalism and burglary across different parts of the state.
Two suspects, Abdullahi Sulaiman, 20, and Lawan Ahmed, 19, both from Na’ibawa Gabas, were arrested at Yan Shana community in Kumbotso Local Government Area for allegedly vandalising armoured cables valued at thousands of naira. The arrest was made with the assistance of local vigilante members.
Similarly, Rabiu Aliyu, 25, and Bashir Zubairu, 19, were apprehended along Madaki Street in Rano Local Government Area for allegedly vandalising aluminium conductor cables.
In another operation, a burglary syndicate accused of terrorising Danhassan community in Kura Local Government Area was dismantled. The suspects including Sadiq Adamu, also known as Cacira, 22; Auwalu Magaji, alias Kuda, 25; and Umar Yusuf, 25 reportedly confessed to breaking into at least seven shops in the area and carting away valuables.
The commandant said all the suspects were cooperating with investigators and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
